With only 6 days left before St. Patrick’s Day, celebrating the color green seems like a great idea, if a bit on the nose. (Forgive me.)
As fate (or the luck of the Irish) would have it, the color gurus at Pantone have named Emerald not only the color of the week, but the color of the year.
Why emerald you ask?
The truth is, I don’t know. Pantone neither consults with or confides in me. (Shocking, right?)
But here is my best guess: (Warning! I am about to dispense a little color theory without a license.)
Like all good children green retains the best parts of its parents marrying the optimistic energy of yellow with the calming prowess of blue. As a result, the color green is restful and hopeful.
In all its shades, green represents growth, rebirth and well-being making it the perfect antidote for those sick of seeing the glass half-empty and looking for a way ahead.
Sound like anyone you know? Honestly, it sounds like all of us. We are all exhausted by the financial uncertainty and political strife that have plagued us for the last few years. And while the much-longed for days of wine and roses may not have yet returned, we are tired of waiting.
Emerald is the ideal way to celebrate our collective, purposeful endeavor to return from the gloom. It is both majestic and modest; radiant and conservative; aspirational and attainable; expectant and guarded.
So that is why, even before the leaves return to the limbs of trees, this green is popping up everywhere.
Evidence? The All-American goods below that showcase the brilliance of emerald’s color and, of course, of the companies who make them.
